Arlene Hueneke was born on Sept. 22, 1913, in Praire Springs Township, daughter of Fred and Wilhelmina (Wiese) Hueneke. She Married Lawrence H. Kohlenberg on Sept. 16, 1937, at St. John Lutheran Church, St. Donatus. They celebrated their 71st anniversary in 2008. He preceded her in death on Jan. 28, 2009.

Arlene was a loyal and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a selfless individual, always thankful for what she had, and truly the essence of grace.

Arlene and her husband, Lawrence, farmed in rural Bellevue for 71 years. She was at her best when she "did" for others; she was the epitome of thoughtfulness and consideration.

Nature fed her soul, she thoroughly enjoyed feeding the birds, taking care of her cats and tending her beloved garden and flowers.

Her faith in the Lord and her church were extremely important to her. She was involved in many organizations, groups and ministries within St. John Lutheran Church.

Though quiet, Arlene had a competitive side to her in playing cards and watching her beloved Chicago Cubs. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Those left to honor her memory are her children, Joann Kasik, of Asbury, Lynn (Eileen) Kohlenberg, of Bellevue, and Jeanette (Jim) Jamieson, of Plymouth, Mass.; a sister-in-law, Verna Fiedler, of Anamosa; grandchildren, Scott (Debbie) Kasik, of Mechanicsville, Phil Kasik and Chad (Meghan) Kohlenberg, both of Dubuque; three great-grandchildren, Scout, Cortlyn and Averee Kasik, all of Mechanicsville; three stepgrandchildren, Kimberly Jamieson, of Long Island, N.Y., Kathleen Gargano, of Marshfield Hills, Mass., and James Jamieson Jr., of Hudson, Mass.; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Landon Cahill, currently serving in Afghanistan, and Robert James Gargano, of Marshfield, Mass.; and three nieces, Carol Schardt, of Calabasas, Calif., Sarah (Bill) Thorn, of Des Moines, and Marge Felderman, of Bellevue.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Orville Hueneke; and a sister, Esther Felderman.

Online condolences may be left for the family at www.hachmannfuneralhome.com.

The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Mill Valley Care Center for their care and compassion shown to Arlene and her family.
