ST. DONATUS, Iowa - LeRoy "Whitey" Miller, 65, of St. Donatus, died Tuesday evening, Aug. 17, 2004, at his sister's home in La Motte.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, Dubuque, with Pastor Robin Karst officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, St. Donatus. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Miller worked at the former Dubuque Packing Co. for 25 years. After leaving the Packing House in 1985, he was the owner of Whitey's Bar X until his retirement in 1999.

He was born on July 2, 1939, in Bernard, son of Harold and Anna (Kueter) Miller.

He was an Army veteran.

He was past vice president of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 150A. He was an active union steward during his years at the Packing House.

Whitey was an avid outdoorsman and New York Yankee fan. He loved running his raccoon hunting dogs and attended many United Kennel Club hunts throughout the United States. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and was always ready for a card game.

Surviving are his mother, Anna T. Miller, of Dubuque; a brother, Harold "Harry" (Rita) Miller Jr., of St. Donatus; three sisters, Shirley (Carlton) Busch, of La Motte, and Betty (Bob) McPhail and Carol Becker, both of Dubuque; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father; two nephews, Allen Busch and Craig Miller; and two brothers-in-law, Bob Becker and Gary McPhail.

A LeRoy "Whitey" Miller Memorial Fund has been established.

Thank-you to Dr. Mark Herman, the Oncology nurses at Dubuque Internal Medicine and Hospice of Dubuque for all the care and kindness they showed to Whitey.
