Joe was born Sept. 30, 1946, in Dubuque, Iowa, to Joseph P. and Della (Cox) Otting and grew up on the Otting family farm in Bernard, Iowa. He was a good man who loved his family, his garden and his country. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War in Danang March 1967 - March 1969. He received a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with One Bronze Star and a Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
He was a journeyman pattern maker by trade but his heart was to be out in nature. He realized a life-long dream when he built his home on the farm where he grew up and spent his final years tending to the most amazing garden that inspired many to start their own gardens. He forever touched people’s lives with his kind spirit and positive, easy-going attitude. He will be treasured in our hearts for how much he blessed us with his love and will always be remembered for being “a really good guy”. May the Lord welcome him home into paradise where he will have the most incredible garden to enjoy for all eternity.
He is survived by his children and their spouses Kelli (Marty) Otting, Terrence (Diana) Otting, Joseph C. (Monika) Otting, and Amy (Michael) McConnell; grandchildren Ian (Ashley) Otting, Olivia Otting, Tristan Otting, Matthew Silva, Kylie McConnell, Kaelyn McConnell; great-grandchildren Gracie and Charles Otting; siblings Patricia Iniguez, Terrance (Concheeta) Otting, Mary Rose (Randy) Mazure, Karen (Randall) Roundy, John “Don” Otting.
