Telegraph Herald (Dubuque, IA) — Thursday, July 12, 2012

John W. "Jack" Feeney, 51, of Dubuque, formerly of Bernard, Iowa, died Monday, July 9, 2012, at home of natural causes.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 14, at St. Patrick's Garryowen Catholic Church, with the Rev. Douglas Loecke officiating, and the Rev Michael Hutchins, SVD, and the Rev. Xavier Dieter, OCSO, concelebrating. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 13, at Leonard Funeral Home and Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where there will be a wake service at 3 p.m.

He was born on Aug. 25, 1960. John battled bi-polar disorder for more than 30 years. He graduated from Cascade High School in 1978 and Loras College in 1988.

John worked with a number of Catholic outreach programs in Philadelphia, New York City and Chicago. He was installed as a Sinsinawa Dominican Associate in 1994 and also served on the Bernard City Council.

John loved baseball with a passion. He enjoyed playing in high school and continued playing for many years with the Bernard Indians. Following his playing days, he remained active in the game as an umpire for local leagues and tournaments. John was an avid professional sports fan. His favorite teams included the Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics and the Chicago Bears. Jack was very proud of his Irish heritage and was active in politics at all levels.

Surviving are his mother, Anne Molony Feeney, of Bernard; his siblings, Grace (Dan) Mozena, Sheila Viel, Mary (Michael) Wilfer, Pat (LoLa) Feeney, Tom (Sandi) Feeney, Mike Feeney and Jerry (Janet) Feeney; and many nephews and nieces .

He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald W. Feeney, on Nov. 1, 1989.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Dubuque Rescue Mission 398 Main St., PO Box 147, Dubuque, and Sinsinawa Dominicans, 585 County Z, Sinsinawa, WI 53824.
