CASCADE, Iowa - Florence A. McKenna, 98, of Cascade, formerly of Bernard, died at 12:25 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010, at Shady Rest Care Center, Cascade.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, at St. Martin's Catholic Church, Cascade, with the Rev. Douglas Loecke officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Garryowen. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Cascade, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m.

She was born on July 9, 1912, at home in Jackson County, daughter of Ben and Agnes (Burke) Donovan. She received her education in St. Patrick's School in Garryowen and graduated from Holy Rosary School in La Motte.

She married Lawrence McKenna, on March 29, 1936, in Richmond, Calif.; he preceded her in death on April 1, 1980.

Florence taught school for a number of years in the rural country schools in Jackson County.

She was a member of St. Matthias Parish in Cascade.

Surviving are three children, Rosemary (Joe) Staner, of Cascade, Robert McKenna, of Bernard, and Janet (Bill) Siegert, of Dubuque; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers and sisters, Bernard, Burke, Edmund, Sylvester, Cecil and Mary.
