BERNARD, Iowa - Rosabella L. Schmit, 91, formerly of Bernard, Waukon, and Brownsville, Minn., died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at Stonehill Care Center.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Garryowen, rural Bernard, with burial in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Cascade, where there will be a wake service at 7 p.m.

She was born on April 21, 1909, in Cascade, daughter of Joseph and Kathryn (Ressler) Otting. She married Cyril J. Schmit on Jan. 30, 1935, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Garryowen; he died July 19, 1994.

She received her education at the former St. Patrick's School, Garryowen. She was a member of St. Patrick's Parish, Garryowen and its altar and rosary society. She also was a member of the Rosary Maker Club, making rosaries for missionaries.

Surviving are two sons, Richard "Dick" (Joyce) Schmit, of Bartonville, Ill., and Philip (Helen) Schmit, of Ojai, Calif.; three daughters, Ann (Pat) Fahey, of Brownsville, Therese (Bob) Buckley, of Mercer Island, Wash., and Rita (Guy) Underdahl, of Cincinnati; 10 grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, four great-grandchildren and seven stepgreat-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Laban, of Bernard.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Ray, Leo, Henry, John J. "Jack" and Joseph P. Otting; and six sisters, Loretta Cashman, Elda Takes, Agnes McCarthy and Anita, Marie and Monica Otting, all three in infancy.

Memorials may be given to Stonehill Care Center, Dubuque.
