Betty J. Leonard, 75, of 230 Cross St., died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, at Ennoble Manor Care Center.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, with Monsignor William Leonard and the Rev. Lyle Wilgenbusch officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Garryowen, rural Bernard, Iowa. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where there will be a parish wake service at 4:30 p.m..

Betty was born on Aug. 5, 1927, in Albany, Ill., daughter of Edward and Winnie (Jones) Loftus. She married Paul A. Leonard on Aug. 19, 1950, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fulton, Ill.

She graduated from Davenport Beauty Academy and worked as a licensed beautician for many years in Iowa and Florida. She also worked at the Hilltop Night Club in East Dubuque, Ill., and at Marco's Restaurant. She last worked at the Canfield Hotel in Dubuque, until her retirement.

She was a member of the Dubuque Women's Club and was an avid card player, especially euchre and 500. She was a devoted New York Yankees fan and a closet Cubs fan. Her main pride was her children and her grandchildren.

Surviving are a son, Patrick (Vicki) Leonard, and a daughter, Jo Anne (Steve) Schroeder, both of Dubuque; and six grandchildren, Kristin, William, Edward and Lauren Leonard and Sarah and Nick Schroeder; her mother, Winnie Loftus, of Fulton; two sisters, Carolyn Cole, of Sterling, Ill., and Frances (Tom) Cannon, of Clinton, Iowa; a brother, Donald (Nannie) Loftus, of Fulton; two brothers-in-law, Edmund Leonard, of Bernard, and Monsignor William Leonard, of Dubuque.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, on May 5, 1992; her father, Edward Loftus, on July 2, 1969; and a grandson, Michael Paul Leonard, on Feb. 10, 1989.

Thank-you to Dr. Matthew Kirkendall, and his nurse, Kate, and the staff of Dubuque Internal Medicine for the care and kindness they gave to Betty and her family.
