Services held for Mrs. McDonnell

Mrs. Neal (Mary Ann) McDonnell, 88, Bernard, died Wednesday, May 16, at the family residence in Bernard.

Services were held Saturday, May 19, at 9 a.m. from the Devaney Funeral Home in Cascade to St. Patrick's Church, North Garryowen. Burial was in the church cemetery. The Rev. William Arquitt, Rev. John Sims and Rev. William Leonard were celebrants of the concelebrated mass.

Casketbearers included Jerry Payne, Lynn McDonnell, Larry Wolbers, J. C. Cox, Joe Driscoll, Neal McDonnell, Steve Melloy, Rick McDonnell.

Mary Ann McDonnell was born at Bernard March 31, 1885, daughter of the late James and Mary (Sweeney) Curtis. She was married to Neal McDonnell, who preceded her in death on August 24, 1945 and was a member of the parish altar and rosary society.

She is survived by six daughters, Mrs. John (Helen) Payne, Mrs. Clarence (Anita) Wolbers, Mrs. Ed (Theresa) Melloy, Dubuque, Mrs. Joe (Estella) Cox, Maquoketa, Mrs. Clarence (Mary Clara) Driscoll and Mrs. Loras (Margaret) Ryan, Bernard, five sons, Ambrose, Joe, Paul, Ray and Ignatius, all of Bernard; 64 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; three, sisters, Mrs. Margaret Kedley, DeWitt, Mrs. Bridget Smith, Maquoketa and Mrs. Josie Freeze, Monticello, a brother, Paul Curtis, Marshalltown, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three sisters and three brothers.
