Neal McDonnell

Funeral services for Neal McDonnell of near Bernard, who passed away suddenly at the farm home Friday evening at 8 o’clock, were held from the home to St. Patrick’s Church, North Garryowen, at 9 o’clock Monday morning with Rev. Patrick F. Malone, pastor, officiating. The Rev. Justin Driscoll of Loras Academy officiated at the final absolution after the mass.

Burial was in St. Patrick’s cemetery.

Pallbearers were Vincent Driscoll, Ed Shannon, Jerry McDonnell, Lawrence Decker, Nicholas Kurt, Leo Noonan.

Honorary pallbearers representing Cascade Council Knights of Columbus were Cyril Smith, Leo Hirtz, Ed Ward, David Turley, Walter Brady, John Federspeil, John Melloy, Joseph Kenneally.

Neal McDonnell was born January 5, 1881, in Jackson County. He was married to Mary Ann Curtis.

He is survived by his wife, five sons and six daughters - Ambrose, Joe, Paul, Pvt. Ignatius McDonnell in the South Pacific, Mrs. John Payne, Mrs. Clarence Wolbers, Mrs. Joe Cox, Misses Mary Claire, Maragret and Teresa. Two sisters, Mary and Ann McDonnell and three brothers, Moses, Dan and Will, also survive.
Those attending the service from a distance were Pvt. Ignatius McDonnell, Fort McClellen, Alabama, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Lynch and family of Clinton, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Kedley, Dewitt, Mr. and Mrs. G. Frieze, Monticello, Mrs. Mary Ellen Longden, Sioux Falls, S. D.
