BERNARD, Iowa - Marian E. Mahoney, 70, of 198 Jess St., Bernard, died at 11:20 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at ManorCare Health Services, Dubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, North Garryowen, rural Bernard. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where there will be a wake service at 4:30 p.m.

Mrs. Mahoney drove a school bus for the Western Dubuque County Community School District for 20 years.

She was born on Jan. 9, 1932, in Bernard, daughter of James and Agnes (Hawkes) Donovan. She married Merlin J. Mahoney on Oct. 28, 1952, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, North Garryowen, rural Bernard. They farmed in the Bernard area all of their lives. Mr. Mahoney died on Aug. 22, 1988.

She was a member of St. Patrick's altar and rosary society. She was a devoted Mom and Grandma to many.

Surviving are four sons, Jim (Karla), Bill, Jack and Mike (Deb) Mahoney, all of Bernard; five daughters, Lois Lynch, Joan (Donnie) Meloy, Mary (Chuck) Shanahan, Sue (Bob) Nolan and Molly (Doug) Clemens, all of Bernard; and 13 grandchildren, Jason, Danny and Brian Mahoney, Jeffery Lynch, Christopher, Megan, and Mamie Meloy, Bradley, Eric and Patrick Shanahan and Bailey, Cody and Whitney Clemens.

She also was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Katie Mahoney; a son-in-law, John Lynch; and two brothers, Jim and Charlie Donovan.

A Marian E. Mahoney Memorial Fund has been established.

The family wishes to thank the staff of ManorCare, Dr. John Whalen and to Tri-State Dialysis for the care and kindness they showed to Marian and her family.
