D.P. Melloy

A most respected and well liked citizen of Bernard, D. P. Melloy, died at his farm home near there early Sunday morning following a long illness.

The body was transferred from the Devaney Funeral home to the farm home where services were conducted to St. Patrick’s church at Garryowen, at nine o’clock.

Requiem mass was celebrated by Rev. P. F. Malone who also said the prayers at the graveside with interment in the adjoining cemetery.

Casket bearers were all nephews: John, Edward, William and Thomas Melloy and John Louis, Joseph and Bart Cox.

Mr. Melloy was a grand Christian gentleman of ready wit and extreme popularity throughout this area and his countless friends join relatives in deeply mourning his departure from this life.

Daniel P., the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Melloy was born December 27, 1862 on the family homestead. He was educated at St. Patrick’s school, always followed the occupation of farming and never married.

Surviving are his three sisters: Mary and Mrs. Joseph Cox of Bernard and Mrs. W. A. Clark of Dubuque and two brothers, W. J. and James Melloy, Bernard.

Compliments of Joseph Cahill
