Miss Susanna A. Melloy

Miss Susanna A. Melloy died at the home of her brother, W. J. Melloy, in Bernard, Iowa at 4:15 p.m., September 29, 1930. Miss Melloy had been ill but a short time. She attended church Sunday, suffered a hemorrhage attack and passed away the following day.

Miss Melloy was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Melloy, and was born January 16, 1871, in Butler township, Jackson county, Iowa. She lived all her lifetime in the vicinity of her birth, and was a woman of rare character, known for her cheerful disposition and charitable nature. She was a lifelong and devout Catholic and her closing moments were fortified by the sacraments of her faith.

She is survived by three brothers, W. J. Melloy of Bernard, and Daniel and James, of Washington Mills; Mrs. Joseph Cox of Washington Mills, Mrs. William Clarke, of St. Joseph's; and Miss Mary E. Melloy with whom she lived with her brother, Daniel, on the old homestead.

The funeral services were held at St. Patrick’s church, Garry Owen, at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, and the requiem high mass was celebrated by Rev. D. P. Mulcahy.

The pallbearers were: Joe Connolly, James Kane, Mike Callahan, Henry Mahony, William Redmond, Joe Zeise, William Collins and Charles O'Brien.
