Joe J. Ronek, 90, of Heritage Manor, formerly of Fairfax, Iowa, died at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 2, 1999, at Heritage Manor.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Dubuque. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, North Garryowen, rural Bernard, Iowa, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 6 of Dubuque. Friends may call after 9 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Mr. Ronek worked on farms in the Fairfax area and later worked in maintenance at Cornell College, Mount Vernon, Iowa, until his retirement.

He was born on Jan. 7, 1909, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, son of John and Bridget (Melloy) Ronek.

He served in the Navy during World War II in Alaska. He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish. He enjoyed square dancing and ballroom dancing. He was an artist and liked painting and drawing. He was fascinated by trains and railroads. He also loved his cats.

Surviving are a sister, Rita R. Huber, of Dubuque; nieces and nephews; and a close friend, Marilyn Peacock, of Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Francis Ronek, on May 15, 1998.

A Joe J. Ronek Memorial Fund has been established.
