Miss Grace Maloy Called By Death
Popular Court House Worker Summoned Early Saturday Morning

Gloom pervaded every office in the county court house following the spread of news of Miss Grace G. Maloy's death at 3:30 a. m. Saturday from influenza. Every official and employee at the county building regards Miss Maloy's death as a personal loss. During her thirteen years of employment in the building—lately as the deputy superintendent of schools of Dubuque county, deceased won the regard and good will of all persons with whom her duties brought her in contact. To many of her friends the report of Miss Maloy’s death comes as a shock since but a short time previous her condition was improved and possibilities of her recovery satisfactory.

A graduate of St. Clara's Academy at Sinsinawa, Wisc., Miss Maloy gained great proficiency in her stenographic work. Besides deputy superintendent of schools, she was official county stenographer.

To immediate friends of Miss Maloy, nearness of death was apparent Friday evening, when, her condition took a sudden turn, for the worse. Fortified by the last rites, of the church—Miss Maloy being a devoted Catholic—she breathed her last at 3:30 Saturday morning at the Mary of Angels Home, 605 Bluff Street, Dubuque.

Her unselfishness and true Christian character won Miss Maloy the affection of all of her associates and accounts for her legion of friends who sorrowfully learn of her lose to the community in which she resided for fourteen years.

Miss Maloy was born at Bernard in 1887. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. C. Maloy of that city. Surviving her and mourning her death are: her parents, two brothers in the military service in France, Private Frank and Corporal Henry E., two other brothers at home, Clarence J. and Clement; four sisters, Mrs. Neil Carew and the Misses Marcella, Anna and Nellie.

As a tribute to Miss Maloy’s memory, the office of County Superintendant of Schools, Joseph Flynn, was closed Saturday.

The funeral was held Monday morning at 9 o’clock from the home in Bernard to Garryowen church.
