DAVID O'CONNELL

David O'Connell, 85, pioneer resident of the North Garryowen community, died at Mercy Hospital, Dubuque, Monday night, May 26 at 9 p.m.

Funeral services were held this (Thursday) morning from the Devaney Funeral Home at 9:30 o'clock to St Patrick's church, North Garryowen. Interment was made in the parish cemetery.

A son of John and Johanna (Fitzgerald) O'Connell he was born February 2, 1873 at Garryowen. He had never married. A farmer, he followed that vocation until his retirement in 1940. For the past 5 years he lived at St. Anthony's Home.

Surviving his passing are one sister, Sister Mary Mariam, of St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital, Dubuque, 6 nephews and 4 nieces. Preceding him in death were his parents, 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

Casket bearers were Mike Noonan, Vic Rollinger, Henry Pfab, James Kenneally, Earl Burke and George Federspiel.
