Ms. Myrl F. Morrison, 85, of Stonehill Care Center, Dubuque, formerly of 605 Bluff St., Dubuque, and Maquoketa, Iowa, died at 5:05 p.m. Monday, March 6, 2006, at the care center

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Raphael's Cathedral, Dubuque, where friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, North Garryowen, rural Ber-nard, Iowa. The Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., Dubuque, is in charge of arrangements.

She was born on March 20, 1920, in Temple Hill, Iowa, daughter of Herman and Alice (Callahan) Morrison.

She was a graduate of the former Immaculate Conception Academy. She earned her teaching certificate from the Cedar Falls (Iowa) Teachers College. She then earned advanced degrees from Creighton University in Omaha, Neb.

Myrl taught school for 45 years from 1938 to 1983. She started teaching at rural schools and retired from Briggs Elementary School in Maquoketa. She was listed in the 1974 encyclopedia of "Outstanding Elementary Teachers in America."

Myrl had a great love for animals. She loved wearing fashionable clothes, especially hats.

She was an excellent storyteller and was very proud of her Irish heritage. She spoke with a heavy Irish brogue and had a terrific sense of humor. She loved to walk and did a great deal of reading.

Myrl was a member of St. Raphael's Cathedral Parish.

Surviving are four sisters, Adeline (Ed) Kirley, of Madison, Wis., Anna Mae Hedden, of Lansing, Mich., Eleanor Kuhn, of Minneapolis, and Maureen Pape, of Dubuque; three brothers, Joseph A. Morrison, of Sea Level, N.C., Kenneth J. (Katie) Morrison, of Bellevue, Wash., and Lee E. (Therese) Morrison, of Dubuque; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Elaine Strang and three brothers, Mahlon, Eugene and Roland Morrison

Memorials may be given in her name to Hospice of Dubuque and the Dubuque Humane Society.
