John F. Molony, 80, of Ennoble Manor Care Center, formerly of 2040 Coates St., died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2001, at the care center.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick's Church, Garryowen, Iowa, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Siegert-Didesch Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., where there will be a wake service at 7 p.m.

Mr. Molony farmed near Bernard, Iowa, until moving to Dubuque in 1999.

He was born on Jan. 31, 1921, near Bernard, son of Michael and Grace (Cannon) Molony. He married Rita Coakley at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Dubuque, in 1949.

He was a lifetime member of St. Patrick's Garryowen, where he served as lector and on the parish council. He was president of the Dubuque County Farm Bureau and a Prairie Creek Township Trustee. He was a hospital visitor for the Dubuque Ostomy Club, bowled on the same team for many years and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Cascade Council.

His hobbies included bowling, card-playing, sing-a-longs and following the San Francisco Giants.

Surviving are his wife, Rita Molony, of Dubuque; three daughters, Mary Ann "Molly" Molony and Christine (Dennis) Engel, both of Cincinnati, and Carmel (Mike) Cantu, of Carrollton, Texas; three grandchildren; three sisters, Anne Feeney, of Bernard, Rita Della Valle, of Greenbrae, Calif., and Martha (William) Hutchins, of Dubuque; three brothers, Mike (Dorothy) Molony, of McFarland, Wis., Richard (Barb) Molony, of Bernard, and Patrick (Elaine) Molony, of Dubuque; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Molony, of Bernard; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Frances Anglin and Sister Sheila; and a brother, James Molony.

Memorials may be given to Divine Word College, Epworth, Iowa 52045.

The family would like to thank Drs. Piekenbrock, Fortson and Compton, and the staff at Ennoble Manor for the excellent care given to John.
