BERNARD, Iowa - Ernest Pfab, 70, of 25005 Bernard Road, Bernard, died at 10:20 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Garryowen, rural Bernard, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call from noon to 7 p.m. Sunday at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, Dubuque.

Mr. Pfab farmed in the Bernard area for many years.

He was born on Dec. 9, 1933, in Bernard, son of Henry and Regina (Kurt) Pfab. He married Ann Kramer on June 1, 1963.

His grandchildren were the light of his life.

Surviving are his wife, Ann, of Bernard; two daughters, Sarah (Scott) Wolfe, of Urbana, Ohio, and Ellen (Lt. Col. Tim, USAF) Halloran, of Dayton, Ohio; four sons, Dennis (Julie) Pfab, of West St. Paul, Minn., Major Dean (Kris) Pfab, USAF, of Altus, Okla., Luke Pfab, of Des Moines, and Jude Pfab, of Bernard; eight grandchildren, Teresa and Daniel Pfab, Matthew and Michael Pfab, Brenna and Becca Wolfe and Connor and Maggie Halloran; four sisters, Bernice (Vincent) Martensen and Caroline (Donald) Koppes, both of Dubuque, Charlotte Pfab, of Fairfield, and Julie Little, of San Antonio, Texas; and four brothers, Irvin (Catherine) Pfab, of Iowa City, Rev. Martin (Rev. Penny) Pfab, of Edina, Minn., Rev. Cletus Pfab, SJ, of Milwaukee, and Ed (Jane Cigrand) Pfab, of Basalt, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Regina; infant brothers, Clarence and Henry J.; a sister, Lucy Stokesberry; two brothers-in-law, Dan Stokesberry and John Little; and his father-in-law, Elmer Kramer.
