Miss Noonan Died Saturday In Chicago

Funeral Held Wednesday From St. Patrick’s

Miss Mary Noonan died at her home in Chicago, Saturday, January 5th, at the great age of 96.

A faithful member of the Catholic church, she died consoled in the faith.

She was born in Garryowen almost a century ago and was truly one of that community’s pioneers. At an early age she became a teacher in the public schools. After having taught for several terms in Garryowen, she went to Chicago, where she was engaged to teach in the city public schools. She held that honored position for almost 49 years, retiring on a pension about 20 years ago. A lifetime spent in imparting useful knowledge to the youth of that great city.

Her brother, Mike Noonan and wife, the former, Johanna Brown, and family moved to Chicago several years ago and they made their home together. Mr. Noonan died about 18 years ago.

She is survived by one brother, Harry, Mrs. Johanna Noonan and her devoted niece, Marie Noonan, all of Chicago, Dr. Albert Noonan and wife and son of Madison, Wis., and many other relatives in Cascade and Garryowen.

The body of Miss Noonan was brought to Cascade Tuesday evening and lay in state at the Devaney Funeral Home from where the funeral was held Wednesday morning to St. Patrick’s church, Garryowen at 9 A.M. Rev. P. F. Malone officiated. Burial was in the family lot in the adjoining cemetery.

Pallbearers were Walter Meloy, Leo Noonan, Walter Brady, Clem Burke, Joe. M. Noonan, Harold Noonan, William Stanton, Jerry Ryle. Those attending from a distance were Harry, Marie and Ray Noonan, Chicago, Dr. Albert Noonan, Madison, Wis., Joe M. Noonan, wife and family and Mrs. Madeline Hickson, Joe, Paul and Clem Burke, Dubuque.

Compliments of Joseph Cahill
