Aged Woman Died Tuesday

One of the oldest residents of eastern Iowa passed to her eternal reward Tuesday at five o'clock in the afternoon when death came to Mrs. Elizabeth O'Connell at her home in Garryowen. Mrs. O'Connell was one of the pioneers of this vicinity and was ninety-six years of age. She lived a fine Christian life, was a loving and generous individual, a good mother and passed on knowing that her life was long and well spent.

Although her birthplace is not known it is believed that Mrs. O'Connell was born in Ireland. She was born in the year 1836, the daughter of Dan and Catherine Foley and she lived most of her life in the Garryowen vicinity with the exception of several years residence at Cascade. She was married about 65 years ago to Daniel O'Connell at Garryowen Church by the Rev. Father Kinsella. Her husband was a farmer and preceded her in death many years ago.

The deceased is survived by one son, James, and a daughter, Nora. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by three children, Tim, Dan and Catherine.

Funeral services were held this (Thursday) morning at 8:30 o'clock from the home to the N. Garryowen church and interment was made in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. P. J. Malone officiated both at the church and the grave. The casket bearers were Pat Bradv, John Federspiel, Mike Ward, J. C. Gearhart, Harry Noonan and [?] Stanton.

Compliments of Joseph Cahill
