OBITUARY

RICE- At Maquoketa, Iowa, January 1, 1881, of consumption, Lydia P. Rice, daughter of Isaac H. and Sarah French, aged 44 years, 5 months and 16 days.

Mrs. Rice was born in Swanton, Franklin county, Vermont. She gave her heart to the Lord at the age of fifteen. She was married to Willis A. Rice at Sheldon, Franklin county, Vermont, February 26, 1855, by Rev. Taylor. She and her husband came to Maquoketa in September, 1855, where they have since resided. She was the mother of six children, five of whom are still living. Her entire life was a beautiful example of earnest devotion to her Master's work and has ever been a kind and loving mother and companion. She died fully trusting in her blessed Savior, who had been a comforter to her during her long illness. Her last words were "Safe in the arms of Jesus."
