Jasper Green's Funeral
The funeral of Jasper Green, on Friday last, under the auspices of the Grand Army of the Republic was very imposing. The pall bearers were members of his old Company B, 9th Iowa Infantry, and were M. Tarbox, R. R. Arnold, W. H. Glick, Ben Sherman, D. E. Rummel, Olin, Iowa; Walter James, Wyoming, Iowa. The escort were of Company A, 9th Iowa Infantry: John Billups, James Hamilton, F. J. DeGrush, John Crane, Wm. Trout, C. C. Young, P. Miller and W. Waite.
Jasper Green was mustered into service as a Private of Company B, 9th Iowa Infantry, September 10th, 1861, at the age of 19. He was discharged September, 1864, A brave soldier, a true friend, and an agreeable messmate. Always ready for duty and ever willing to cheer up and assist sick and wounded comrades.
His canteen was, as by his request, then lowered into the grave and his war comrades deposited sprigs of evergreen, then as the bugle sounded taps, all quietly marched from the tomb and left their comrade in the hands of his maker.
