HAZZARD PERRY CAVEN

Hazzard Perry Caven, son of Shepherd and Phoebe Caven, was born January 14, 1853, and after a short illness he passed away at his home in Brandon township, Jackson county, Iowa, on Saturday, November 27, 1926, at the age of 73 years, 4 months and 13 days.

In 1878 he was united in marriage to Miss Cassie Sinkey, who preceded him in death in July, 1908. He was the fond father of five sons, Charles, Arthur, Leonard and Sherman of Jackson county, and Maurice of Madison, Wisconsin and three daughters, Mrs. Adella Hardin and Mrs. Daisy Burkey of Jackson county and Mrs. Florence McCutcheon of Sioux City, Iowa.

He made a profession of religion in young manhood and became a member of the Presbyterian church at Emeline, of which he was a loyal member until his death. He was an upright, honest citizen, a good neighbor, making the golden rule his motto and guide in life.

Besides the sorrowing family, one brother, Charles of Gold Bar, Washington and one sister, Mrs. Cora Miller and eight grandchildren and a large cirlce of admiring friends and relatives survive to mourn his departure.

Funeral services were held at the late home in Brandon township, prayer at the house at 1 p.m. and sermon at the Emeline church at 2 p.m. and burial at Hickory Grove cemetery. The Rev. D. F. Boomershine officiated.
