Minnie A. Downer, daughter of the late Phylemeon A. and Lavina Holmes Downer, was born on July 17, 1867 at Mill Rock, Jackson County, Iowa where she spent her girlhood. On April 15, 1889, she was united in marriage to George W. Saunders, Jr. at Mill Rock. She spent her married life in Sharon Township, Clinton County, Iowa, where she was well known.

To this union nine children were born, of whom eight are left to mourn her loss. They are Mrs. Louie (Eva) Kokemuller, Davis H. and Eldon C., all of Fulton, Iowa; Bert R., Mrs. Clifford (Elsie) Watters and Mrs. Henry (Linda) Kokemuller, all of Maquoketa; Mrs. George (Ethel) Lindsay of Garden Prairie, Ill., and Mrs. Harvey (Zelba) Banks of Spokane, Wash. A son Dana, preceeded her in death on Feb. 17, 1942.

Her husband passed away on Feb. 16, 1928, after which time she lived for many years on the home farm with her son, Dana. Prior to his death for the past 14 years she made her home with her son Davis and family, first in Maquoketa, then later in Fulton, where she has made many friends.
In July, 1951, she fell and broke her hip and had been confined to her bed since. She passed away at the Rockwell Nursing home in Maquoketa on Jan. 19 at the age of 87 years.

Besides her children she is survived by a sister, Mrs. Bish (Mabel) Welch of Apache, Oklahoma, 17 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren. Three brothers and two sisters and two grandsons preceded her in death.
