DIED-

TAFT-At his home on North Olive Street, Maquoketa, of paralysis, Monday morning, November 17, 1902, W. G. Taft, aged over 81 years.

Mr. Taft was one of Iowa's pioneer residents, a man of strict integrity and esteemed by all. A successful farmer and punctual in his business relations. As an early resident of Dubuque County he did much toward the development of the country. He was born in Freetown, Cortland County, New York, September 2, 1821 and when six years of age went with his parents to Barnesville, Ohio, at which place he lived until 23 years of age. November 3, 1844, he was married to Lucinda Gee, who, with six of the ten children born to them, survive an honorable and loving husband and father. In 1845 they came west and located on a farm in Dubuque County near Cascade and in 1868 they relocated on a farm north of Maquoketa. About 12 years ago they sold the farm and came to Maquoketa where they lived ever since.

The funeral services were held at the home Tuesday afternoon at 2 O'clock, Rev. A. T. Young officiating. The surviving children are Albert A. of Clarion, Mrs. Mary Esty, Robert George, Mrs. Ida Ely and Jacob, all of Maquoketa.
