Jackson Sentinel, September 27, 1921

The remains of Bert Goodenow, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Royal Goodenow, arrived in this city at noon today from Crookston, Minn., where he passed away Sunday. Mr. Goodenow resided at Dupree, South Dakota, and was engaged in farming. He had taken a carload of cattle to St. Paul and decided to spend few days with his friend, Wylie J. Phillips, at Crookston, while enroute home. Shortly after arriving at Crookston he was taken seriously ill and hurried to a hospital, where he passed away. His wife was visiting with her niece, Mrs. L. E. Munsinger, at Ames, where the word of her husband's death reached her. Bert was well known to many here, this being his boyhood home, and his many friends here regret his untimely death. He was born in Clinton county, Aug. 5, 1871, but for several years had resided in South Dakota, making occasional visits to his old home community. Besides his wife, he leaves two brothers, Charles of Wall Lake, Iowa, and Melvin of Burwell, Neb. The funeral was held from the Dr. E. A. Phillips home this afternoon at 3:00 o'clock, Rev. J. G. Morgan officiating. Interment was made in Mt. Hope cemetery. Maquoketa.
