Jackson Sentinel, Jan. 9, 1879

Died January 6, 1879, at his residence in Richland township, Jackson Co., Iowa, Mr. Obediah Sawtell. Mr. Sawtell was an old settler and a highly respected citizen. He was born in Ashtabula Co., Ohio, January 15, 1805. Mr. Sawtell was within eight days of 74 years of age. He came to this county in the spring of 1837, nearly 42 years ago. He leaves a family of four grown children, his wife, Caroline, having died June 22, 1868.

"Ripe with years he is gathered to his Fathers."
