Walter T Ahern, 61, of Rt. 2, Zwingle, Iowa, died Wednesday noon, November 8th, 1978 at the Jackson County Public Hospital, Maquoketa, as a result of a tractor accident at his farm home earlier. Friends called at the Devaney-Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade from where services were held to St Patrick's Church, North Garryowen, Saturday, Nov 11,1978 at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Carl Ruhland officiated at the concelebrated Mass, assisted by Rev. Joe McDermott, Rev. James Miller, Rev. Mark Ressler and Rev. Donald Peters. Burial was in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Casketbearers were Tom Donovan, Tom Kurt, Merlin Mahoney, Art Capesius, Jim O'Connell and John Shanahan. Walter T. Ahern was born March 25, 1917 at Zwingle, son of Gerald and Mary (Allen) Ahern. He was married on September 25, 1946 to Cecelia Gregorich and farmed in the Zwingle area most of his life. He was a member of St. Patrick's parish He is survived by his wife, Cecelia, two sons, Dr. Paul Ahern, Dyersville and Wayne Ahern, Ames, Iowa; one daughter, Lois Ahern, Albert Lea, Minnesota, one brother, Francis Ahern, Zwingle; two sisters, Mrs. Joe (Marie) Marbach, Worthington and Mrs. Mildred Goodall, Maquoketa He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant.
