Cascade Pioneer, May 13, 1883

Commodore Callaghan. a prominent and well known citizen of Garry Owen, died suddenly at Dyersville on last Saturday night. He was on his way home and was taken ill at Dyersville. Dr. Herr of Dubuque, was summoned and in his best medical skill he was unable to stay the hand of death. The body was sent by train to Bernard on Tuesday. The funeral took place on Tuesday. The Commodore was related by marriage to the well known and respected Jess family of Prairie Creek. He was a genial and generous hearted man and will be mourned by many personal friends.
