Mrs. Catherine Veronica McCarthy, 87, Bernard, died Saturday night, January 28, at 11:45 p.m. at John McDonald Hospital, Monticello. Friends called at the Devaney Funeral Home in Cascade from where funeral services were held to St. Patrick's church, North Garryowen at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial was in St. Patrick's cemetery. The Rev. Francis Phelan officiated at the Requiem Mass, delivered the sermon and conducted graveside services. Pallbearers all nephews, were Loras McCarthy, Orland Dunn, Lester Karus, Thomas Dunn, Cy Meloy, Paul McDonnell.
Mrs. McCarthy was born at Garryowen July 26, 1879, daughter of John and Bridget Dunn. She made her home in the Bernard area all of her life. She was married to John McCarthy, who preceded her in death. She is survived by 4 sons, Leslie, Vern, Clem, all of Bernard and Lloyd of Dubuque, 2 daughters, Mrs. Ed (Ardella) Leonard and Mrs. Clifford (Lucille) Donovan, Bernard; 6 sisters , Mrs. Wm. (Mayme) Kumerow, Mrs. Viola Hardiman, Miss Sadie Dunn, Miss Florence Dunn, Miss Pearl 0'Hara, Mrs. Emma Bechen, all of Dubuque; 1 brother, Gerald Dunn, Dubuque; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren.
