RICE-In Maquoketa, Iowa, January 1, 1881, Mrs. Lydia P. Rice, daughter of Isaac H. and Sarah French, was born in Swanton, Vermont, July 15, 1836. She gave her heart to the Lord at age 15. She was married to Willis A. Rice, at Sheldon, Franklin County, Vermont, February 26, 1854, by Rev. Taylor; came to Maquoketa, Iowa in September 1855, where she has since remained. She was the mother of six children, of whom five are still living. Her whole life has been a beautiful example of entire devotion to her Master's Work; has ever been a kind and loving mother and companion. She died fully trusting in her blessed Saviour, who has been a great comfort to her during her long sickness. Her last words were: "Safe in the arms of Jesus."
