JASPER GREEN

The funeral of Jasper Green, on Friday last, under the auspices of the Grand Army of the Republic, was very imposing. The pall bearers were members of Company B, Ninth Iowa Infantry. The escort were of Company A, Ninth Iowa Infantry.

At the cemetery after the Grand Army of the Republic had finished their touching service, the members of his company formed around the open grave and Comrade DeGrush delivered the eulogium.

Jasper Green was mustered into service as a private of Company B, 9th Iowa Infantry, Sept. 10, 1861, at the age of 19. He was discharged in Sept., 1864. A brave soldier, a true friend, and and agreeable messmate. Always ready for duty and ever willing to cheer up asssist sick and wounded comrades.

His canteen was, as by his request, lowered into the grave and his war comrades deposited sprigs of evergreen, then as the bugle sounded taps all quietly marched from the tomb and left their comrade in the hands of his Maker.
