David Herrig 1953-2010

David John Herrig, 57, of Bellevue, died Thursday, December 16, 2010 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, December 21, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bellevue. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. Visitation for Dave will be held from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. Monday evening at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bellevue and again Tuesday morning after 9:00 at Hachmann Funeral Home & Cremation Service until procession to the church.

David was born April 29, 1953 in Bellevue, Iowa, the son of Marvin and Geraldine (Dondlinger) Herrig. He married Bette Schulte on December 30, 1972 in Bellevue. Dave was employed with Bellevue Community Schools as the maintenance director for 30 years. He was a compassionate and giving man with a heart of gold. He had a love and talent for music, participated in many community theater productions and was a vocalist at St. Joseph Catholic Church for many years. He was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals Fan but his love for his family far surpassed anything else. Dave served on the Bellevue Ambulance Service for 13 years, was a chairman for the St. Joseph Parish Pork Roast for 18 years, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, having recently served as the Grand Knight and served as past president of Iowa Building Maintenance Engineers.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife of 37 years, Bette; son, Jason (Kristin) Herrig, of Des Moines; daughter, Jen Herrig, of Bellevue; a brother, Dan (Renee) Herrig, of Clinton; four sisters, Janice (Leo) Kilburg, Judy (Vincent) Kilburg, both of Bellevue, Lois Herrig, of Des Moines and Doris (Randy) Tuftee, of Parkview; He was preceded in death by his parents.
