Deceased Name: Dixie L. Hankemeier

MAQUOKETA, Iowa - Dixie L. Hankemeier, 55, of Maquoketa, died Tuesday, April 4, 2006, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque, following a brief illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Lahey Funeral Home, Maquoketa. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Lahey Funeral Home, Maquoketa.

Mrs. Hankemeier worked for Stewarts Northgate and Von Mauer, was a secretary for Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, and presently she worked at the Maquoketa Middle School and Wal-Mart, Maquoketa.

She was born on July 7, 1950, in Maquoketa, son of Louis "Bud" and Shirley (Bickford) Eckelberg. She married Ronald A. Hankemeier on Aug. 9, 1975, at First Lutheran Church, Maquoketa.

She attended Preston and Maquoketa schools, graduating in 1968, and then attended Stewarts Cosmetology College, graduating in 1969.

She was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Maquoketa, and Thrivent Insurance for Lutherans.

Dixie enjoyed singing, cooking and baking, cats, crafts, sewing and working in her garden, but most of all, she enjoyed her family. She believed fully in the success of her students and went out of her way to help her Wal-Mart customers.

Surviving are her husband, Ronald Hankemeier, of Maquoketa; a daughter, Amanda Hankemeier, of Maquoketa; two sons, Jefferson Hankemeier, of Minneapolis, and Joshua Hankemeier of Urbana, Ill.; and her parents, Louis "Bud" and Shirley Eckelberg, of Maquoketa.
