March 10, 1887Mrs. Jennie B. Hooper (nee Aldrich), formerly of this place, committed suicide at Omaha last week, choosing the opium route. She left a letter which was published in the Omaha papers, giving a slight history of her early ruin at the hands of one who should have protected her, and of interest to only young girls who think home life slow and long for the exciting whirl of a maddening society. Her parents tried in all ways to educate and control her, but all proved of no avail. She forsook home and pure society and when too late to raise above the maelstrom of inequity into which she had fallen, performed her kindliest act to society, the world and herself by swallowing the potent poison that separated her soul from a foul prison and permitted it to soar out into eternity and return to its maker, where let us hope it will meet a redeemer who, knowing all things, all perplexities, all temptations and trials through which the weak spirit had been greatly tarnished, will brighten and mould it to His glory., and the weary spirit find at last rest and peace that had forsaken it on earth.
