Maquoketa Excelsior, Maquoketa, Iowa, June 28, 1901

Harley Godard-

On Thursday morning at two o’clock, Harley Godard, the eighteen year old son of Loyal Godard, who moved to town sometime ago, from the Godard neighborhood west of town, died of appendicitis. For several weeks the young man has been ill, seemingly with peritonitis, but of late he has seemed better. Dr. Bowen considered that the case was one of the prevalent appendicitis and in connection with Drs. Johnson, Scott and some others, operated Wednesday, but the lad never rallied from the operation, thus demonstrating how dangerous are delays in such cases.

The funeral took place today at 2:30 p.m. at the Godard Church, west of Maquoketa. Rev. M. M. Williams of Elwood will officiate. There were also services at the house at one o’clock.
