Darlis K. Croce, 66, of Maquoketa, Iowa, died on Wednesday, February 23, 2011, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa.

A funeral mass celebrating her life will be held at 11 A.M., Monday, February 28, 2011, from the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 P.M. on Sunday, February 27, 2011, from the Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Service in Maquoketa. A rosary will be recited at 1:45 P.M. by the Catholic Daughters and a vigil service held at 5 P.M. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Maquoketa, Iowa.

Darlis Kay Kilburg was born on December 10, 1944 in Maquoketa, Iowa. She was the fourth child born to Melvin and Luella (Hoffman) Kilburg. She grew up on a farm in Springbrook and graduated from Bellevue Marquette High School in 1962. She married Billy E. Croce on October 19, 1963 in Springbrook, Iowa.

Through the years Darlis had worked for Gilmore Dry Cleaners, on the assembly line at Pacific Coast Feather Company and at the Jackson County Senior Center as a cook. Her biggest job was that of a mother to her three children and caregiver to her two sons.

Darlis was an active member of The Catholic Daughters of America Court St. Raphael #1156, Sacred Heart Catholic Church and its circle. She also was a member of the Cystinosis Research Foundation, Cystinosis Foundation and the Midwest Cystinosis Group. She enjoyed bowling in league, sewing, crocheting and doing seamstress work, cooking, gardening, gambling and fishing "up at the cabin". She was always the first one to catch a fish. She was known for her kind heart and generosity.

Darlis is survived by her husband, Billy Croce of Maquoketa, IA; children, Khristy (Jay) Rollinger of Bettendorf, IA, and William John Croce of Maquoketa, IA; a brother, Dennis (Liz) Kilburg of Otter Creek, IA; 4 grandchildren, Sarah, Amy, Lucas and Blake; sisters-in-law, Maureen Kilburg of Maquoketa, IA, Alice Kilburg of Bellevue, IA, Monna Cleary of Lost Nation, IA, Donna Camp of Guntersville, AL, Maxine Flock of Maquoketa, IA, Janis (Phil) Seay of Maquoketa, IA and Wendy (Bill) Hainstock of Maquoketa, IA; a brother-in-Law, Leo "Butch" Croce of Toronto, IA; 2 aunts; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Keith A. Croce on April 12, 2005, and 3 brothers, Lorin, Mahlon and Carl.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Darlis Kay Croce memorial fund has been established.
