OBITUARY
Amon S. Battles, son of Samuel and Abigail Battles was born at Maquoketa, Iowa, December 29, 1862 and died at the home of his niece, Mrs. Truman Gregory, on December 7, 1920, aged 57 years, 11 months and 8 days. He passed the most of his life about Maquoketa, with the exception of two years in Oklahoma and one in Dakota.
Amon never married so those surviving him are his brothers and sisters and other distant relatives. He had nine brothers and sisters, five of whom survive him. They are Benjamin of Hunter, Oklahoma, Al of California, Mrs. Eunice Fuller of Toledo, Iowa, and Mrs. Emma A. Cole of Churdan, Iowa; also five half brothers and sisters. They are Mrs. Birdie Benter of Toledo, Iowa, Miss Pearl of Washington, D. C., Daniel of near Maquoketa, Otto of Yakima, Washington and Mrs. Blanche Carlson of Carroll, Iowa.
This quiet man discharged his duties faithfully and gave to the world more than he took away. The funeral services were held from the Godard church on Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J. J. Snyder and interment was made in the Godard cemetery.
