Former Maquoketa Resident Dies in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
John Wesley Bailey, son of Orlando and Lucy Bailey, was born at Antioch, Illinois, July 18, 1844; died at his home in Kenosha, Wisconsin, April 30, 1918. He enlisted at the age of 17 in the 96th Illinois Infantry and served nearly three years in the Civil War. He had been afflicted with heart trouble for a number of years and had suffered greatly through the past winter. He was a man of sterling honesty of purpose and decision of character. He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Lester Lane, and one grand-daughter, Naundice Lane. A sister, Mrs. Addie Safford, and a brother Homer Bailey from Maquoketa, were present during his last days. He was laid to rest in Green Ridge cemetery at Antioch, the Lovell Post of the Grand Army of the Republic being in charge of the services. Deceased was well known in Maquoketa, having been a resident here for a number of years.
