It is our sad duty to chronicle the death of Mrs. James Crawford, who passed away at her home north of our city last Friday, after an illness of only a few days.

Mr. and Mrs. Crawford have lived in this vicinity nearly 40 years and since Mrs. Crawford has been taken away, a gap has been left that can never be replaced. Paper and pen could never do justice to her endearing qualities. She was a kind-hearted, lovable woman who everybody loved. The expression of regret at her death that have been heard have been ones of sorrow. The many kind acts that she was always doing for her friends endeared her in their hearts so that she will never be forgotten.

Sarah A. Alpaugh was born in Prattsburgh, Steuben county, N.Y., Nov. 10, 1842. From Steuben county she moved to Livingstone county where she was married to James Crawford in 1863. In 1865 they moved to Van Buren, Jackson County, and later to a farm near Miles, where she died Nov. 20, 1903.

The funeral services were held Sunday at 11 a.m. at the M.E. church. Rev. Bishop preached a very able sermon which cheered the hearts of the sorrowing relatives and friends. The casket was covered with many beautiful floral pieces, tokens of the respect and love in which she had been held.

The relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were: Rutherfore Crawford of Des Moines, Marshall Crawford of Mobile, Alabama; Ira Gilbert of Olney Springs, Colo.; and Mrs. Jennie E. Robinson of Fonda, Ia.

Exactly as published in a Jackson Co., Iowa, newspaper.
