Vivian Nola Mowry was born August 10, 1918 in Cedar County, Iowa, to Melvin and Elsie (Steffens) Mowry. She married Edward Seng on October 4, 1941 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lost Nation, Iowa. He died on June 15, 1994. Vivian was a homemaker and farmed with her husband near Elwood for over 50 years. Giving of oneself, guided Vivian in her daily work. As a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lost Nation, she held many offices in the Alter & Rosary Society during the construction of the new church. Vivian & Ed later became members of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa. Recognizing the importance of giving back to the community, Vivian was active in the reorganization of the Elwood School District as well as a cub scout leader for many years. Vivian enjoyed planting flower gardens and watching beautiful birds but her most important love was her family. Later in life, Vivian moved to Cottage Grove Place, a retirement community in Cedar Rapids, where she enjoyed music, playing cards and bingo.

Vivian is survived by her children, Theresa "Terri" Christoffersen of Toddville, Francis (Suzanne) Seng of Waterloo, and Melvin (Diane) Seng of Davenport; 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Vonee Busch of Lost Nation and a sister-in-law, Vivian Mowry of Amana. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a son-in-law, Arthur Christoffersen and one brother, Virgil Mowry.

Vivian E. Seng, 92, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Maquoketa, Iowa, died Friday, September 10, 2010, at Cottage Grove Place, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
