Fred Marwitz is Dead

At the ripe old age of 89 years, coming Sep. 6, 1919, Frederick Robert Marwitz passed from the strifes of mortal life to the Everlasting peace and rest of the immortal life. Mr. Marwitz had been failing in health for about two years. During the years of his infirmities he had received the care and attention of the loving hands of his devoted wife, daughter Minnie, and son Henry, the tender love of whom he greatly appreciated. At 3:40 a.m. Saturday, September 6, 1919, after three nights of severe suffering, the light of life suddenly went out to resume its radiance in the Great Beyond.

That venerable figure so dear to all who knew him will be greatly missed and more by the devoted and loving wife and children because of the tender ministering which they gave him has ceased to be a part of their daily routine.

Frederick Robert Marwitz was born in Ervesberg, Germany. He came to America in 1854 and located in Davenport, Iowa. In 1858 he was united in marriage to Miss Dorothy Stuartson. To this union were born seven children, five boys and two girls: Fred and George having died of diphtheria in Davenport at about three and four years of age. Richard died of typhoid fever on the home farm when two years of age. Edward F. whose residence is unknown, Minnie L. at home and Mary who died March 17, 1912, on the home farm, death being caused by blood pressure and Henry J. also at home. There are two grandchildren Eva May and Verne Gladys Marwitz of Sherburn, Minn.

During the Civil war Mr. Marwitz volunteered to battle with the Boys in Blue for a noble cause and to help save this union. He belonged to Company C. 14th Iowa. He lived in Davenport 11 years, on a farm near Dixon 2 years, on a farm adjoining the present one 1 year and on the present farm 48 years. He with his wife was a member of the German Lutheran church of Davenport. He was an unassuming upright man, always putting the interests of righteousness before his personal interests. With his aged wife and children there are many warm friends who mourn their loss and who will fondly cherish the memory of a good man.

The funeral was held at the home three miles north of Monmouth, IA., the Rev. John Dawson, a former pastor of Monmouth, now of Calamus, Iowa, officiating. The Monmouth choir rendered appropriate singing. The floral offerings were beautiful. Burial was made in the Monmouth cemetery. The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the bereaved ones.
