February 26, 1902Obituary
News reached this city Monday morning of the death of Mrs. Miles Emery of Clinton at 9 o’clock the same morning. This was very sad and unexpected news, she having visited her mother in this city about ten days previous.
Ellen Lavina Blake was born October 6, 1852, in Bangor, Franklin county, N. Y., and removed to Maquoketa with her parents in September, 1865. She was married to Miles J. Emery in this city in 1878 and continued a residence here until removing to Clinton about 1894. Last week she was taken sick with pneumonia which had such a hold on her system that she soon succumbed to the inevitable and passed out at her home in Clinton on the morning of Feb. 24. 1902. She leaves a husband and two daughters, Iva and May, to mourn the loss of a kind and loving wife and mother. A mother, three brothers, George, D. C. and Albert, of this city and three sisters, Mrs. L. B. McDonald of this city and Mrs. Jane Pangborn and Mrs. Effie Thomas of Colorado survive her.
Mrs. McDonald and Albert left for Clinton Monday and accompanied the remains to this city last evening. Funeral service will be held from the Methodist church at 2 o’clock this (Wednesday) afternoon.
