Maquoketa Excelsior, November 8, 1912

DIED-Thomas H. Lawrence was born in Clinton county, Ohio, July 18, 1844, and died at Maquoketa, Iowa, October 31, 1912, at the age of 68 years, 3 months and 25 days. When but a boy he came to Galena, Illinois, where he spent the early part of his life. Here he was united in marriage to Mary Eustice, who has passed on before him to the better land. He spent about twenty-five years of his life in Worthing, South Dakota, going from there to California. About nine years ago he returned from California to Delmar, Iowa, where he lived with his sister, Mrs. Estey, until last March, when he came with her to Maquoketa where he died. He was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic , having served in the 96th Illinois Infantry Regiment. While at Worthing, he united with the Methodist Church and became a faithful worker, especially in the Sunday school. He leaves to mourn his loss three sisters, Mrs. E. R. Cain, Mrs. C. B. Estey, both of Maquoketa, and Mrs. E. C. Dawson of Jackson, Tennessee; also one brother, G. W. Lawrence, of Chicago, Illinois. Funeral services were held in the home of Mrs. E. R. Cain, Sunday, November 3rd, at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. B. B. Keister.
