A Fatal Accident
-
Last Friday morning while George Mangler, one of the early [sic] residence of Washington township, was cleaning out an old blackberry patch, he met with an accident which terminated fatally, says the Sabula Gazette. Mr. Mangler had cut someof the canes off with a cycle, leaving the stubs three or four inches high, and others he pulled out by the roots. While pulling on one of the later with all his might it suddenly gave way, causing him to fall backward in a sitting posture, one of the short, pointed stubs that had been cut off entering just in front of the base of the spine and penetrating between three and four inches. At first it was not thought that the results would be serious, but after suffering the most intense pain until between eight and nine o'clock Sunday evening, death relieved him of his suffering.

Deceased was a little past 72 years old and was well known and respected in the community in which he lived so many years.
