HON. W. H. REED

___ of Jackson County’s most Highly
[Esteemed] and Honored Citizens, Passed
Away Sunday, May 19th, 1901.

___ Wm. H. Reed, one of Jackson county’s most prominent and respected citizens, passed away at his home in this city last Sunday morning ___ 5 o’clock. For the past two ___ Mr. Reed had been a sufferer ___ cancerous growth upon his ___ cheek and which no doubt hastened the end. He had laid in a _____ state for several days _____ to his death and the end _____ without a struggle.

Wm. H. Reed was a native of Ireland where he was born in 1823 and ___ to America in 1839 locating in Jackson county, Iowa, with his parents when Indians were the principal [inhabitants] of this territory. In 1855 he was wedded to Miss Catherine [Lamborn], who survives him. To this ____ eight children were born, four boys and four girls – R. H. Reed, of ___ Iowa; J. L. of Griswold, Iowa; __ A. Poole, of Spencer, Iowa; __lter L. Gifford, of Des Moines; Mrs. E. S. Dyas, Miss Mary, W. __ and Alex, residents of this ___ . All the children with the _____ of Mrs. Spencer were ____ at the obsequies, also Samuel [Lamborn], a brother-in-law, of Griswald, Iowa.

Mr. Reed had long been a resident of Washington township and ____ out a year ago moved to _____ and occupied a new residence which he had built at the ___ of Sixth and Court streets. _____cs Mr. Reed was an ardent _____it but always enjoyed the ______ and esteem of his political ____s. He had served the town-_____ all the various offices, the _____ a member of the board of supervisors and in 1859, 1872 and served in the legislative halls __tate as senator from this _____.

Funeral services were held ____ afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Presbyterian church, Rev. C. ______t officiating. The pall bearers were A. G. Kegler, J. T. _____n, J. C. Murphy, John ___ B. W. Seward, Jr. and J. __mpbell. The interment was at Presbyterian cemetery where remains were followed by a large ___ of sorrowing friends.
