March 1, 1946John D. Hardin Dies in Dubuque; Burial At Iron Hill
John Douglas Hardin, 82, ill for the last two months, died at 12:15 Monday morning at the family residence in Dubuque. Funeral service was held Wednesday afternoon with burial in East Iron Hill cemetery.
Born in Jackson county, Nov. 30, 1863, he had lived in Dubuque for 40 years. He was a member of the First Baptist church.
In 1885 he was married to Sarah Penney, to which union two children, Daniel Hardin and Mrs. Frank Bakey, Dubuque, were born. On April 7, 1903, he was married to Martha Penney and five children were born to this marriage, Mrs. Leo Houpes, Dubuque; Mrs. Francis Kringle, Dubuque; Mrs. O. W. Trumble, Fulton, Mich; and James and William Hardin, Dubuque.
Other survivors are a step-daughter, Mrs. J. A. Green, Fayette; one sister, Mrs. Dan Waite, Maquoketa; three brothers, William, Charles and Lee Hardin, all of Maquoketa; ten grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters.
