OBITUARY-
MAGGIE WALPMiss Maggie Walp died near Maquoketa, July 8, 1887. Miss Walp was born in Jackson County in 1863 and was known by a wide circle of friends. Cheerful and amiable in her disposition, it is more than mere use of well turned phrase that to know her was to love her. For six months she patiently endured the slow sufferings of consumption. Without murmur or dread she awaited the approach of death supported by the comforting presence of her Redeemer. During the past winter Maggie accepted the offer of salvation and became a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Andrew. With about sixty others, who with her confessed Christ, she has adorned her profession by subsequent trust and obedience. Her family are sorely tried by the loss of a loved one to whom they gave constant loving care. The one who gave a mother’s tenderest love and attention, and all the rest, have the sympathy of the entire community. The funeral services were held in the United Presbyterian Church in Andrew on Sabbath morning and listened to by a vast number of friends. The discourse was preached by her pastor, Rev. J. M. McArthur from the text, “My beloved is gone down into the garden to gather lilies.”
