AGED PIONEER GONE TO REST

WM. CURRENT

At the ripe age of nearly 80 years Wm. Current was gathered to his father on Saturday last, the 15th inst. From the Record we learn that he “was born in Canada, near Niagara Falls, July 29, 1802. When the Patriot War broke out he joined the struggle for freedom, and when the patriots were overpowered he ferried Wm. Lyon Mackenzie across the Niagara River, and fled to Iowa on foot in 1839. His love of liberty was so strong that he sacrificed property and friends. Mr. Current was a man of strong convictions and was true to them. He was unswerving in his course and his love of right was so strong that he was often called severe. He was an uncompromising temperance man and was the victim of revenge on several locations. He prospered in business and leaves a large estate to his mourning children, three in number. His remains were buried beside those of his wife in the cemetery at Buckhorn.”
