Obituaries

Fern Siegel

Fern A. Siegel, 90, of Reno, Nev., and formerly of Andrew and Maquoketa, died May 28th at her home.

Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, June 3, at Salem Lutheran Church in Andrew, with the Rev. Neal Solomonson officiating. Burial was in the Andrew Cemetery.

Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Carson & Son Funeral Home in Maquoketa.

Mrs. Siegel was born on Dec. 29, 1907 in Maquoketa to August L. Schocker and Cora E. White Schocker.

She married Raymond C. Siegel on Dec. 3 1939 in Ames. He preceded her in death on June 20, 1963.

Mrs. Siegel was a graduate of Maquoketa Community High School and had attended Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls.

She then became a hairdresser for 57 years in the Andrew and Maquoketa areas, retiring in 1984. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Andrew and its women’s circle.

She enjoyed fishing, gardening, canning and cooking.

Survivors include one daughter, Sue McKown of Reno; one son, John Siegel of Concord, Calif., and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two sisters.

A memorial fund has been established.
